High Blood Pressure is a common disease in which blood flows through blood vessels (arteries) at higher than normal pressures.
Normal Blood Pressure
Normal blood pressure for adults is defined as a systolic pressure below 120 mmHg and a diastolic pressure below 80 mmHg. It is normal for blood pressure to change when you sleep, wake up,or are excited or nervous. When you active,it is normal for your blood pressure to increase. How ever, once the activity stops, your blood pressure returns to your normal baseline range.
Abnormal Blood Pressure
Abnormal increases in blood pressure are defined as having blood pressures higher than 120/80 mmHg.
The Effects of High Blood Pressure on the Body :
1.Circulatory System
The circulatory system transports oxygenated blood throughout the body.Healthy arteries stretch slightly as blood is pumped through them.High blood pressure may cause the arteries to stretch too much, leaving them vulnerable to damage.Overtime, small tears form scar tissue whitin the arteries.
Narrowed arteries, called atherosclerosis, can trap plaque and cholesterol, causing coronary artery disease. If the left ventricle of the heart thickens, its ability to pump blood can be severely limited.Trapped blood can result in blood clots that narrow or block arteries, causing a stroke or heart attack.Blood clots can also block the follow of blood to other vital organs.Week or bulging arteries and blood vessels are more likely to rupture.
2.Central Nervous System
Your brain cannot function without a steady supply of oxigenated blood.Narrowed arteries or a blood clot can briefly block the follow of blood to the brain
3.Excretory System
The kidneys filter waste products, keeping what you need, and discarding what your body can't use.The kidneys can't function without a good supply of oxygenated blood.Narrowed blood vessels restrict the blood supply, causing the kidneys to grow less and less efficient in removing toxins
4.Sexual Disfunction
High blood pressure can cause sexual dysfuction in men and women. In men, good blood flow to the penis is necessary to achieve and maintain an erection. If chronic high blood pressure affects arteries and blood vessels leading to the penis. It can result in erectile dysfunction, painful ejaculation, and impotence.
